Lying in Early Modern English Culture in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

Lying in Early Modern English Culture is a major study of ideas of truth and falsehood in early modern England from the advent of the Reformation to the aftermath of the failed Gunpowder Plot. The period is characterised by panic and chaos when few had any idea how religious, cultural, and social life would develop after the traumatic division of Christendom. While many saw the need for a secular power to define the truth others declared that their allegiances belonged elsewhere. Accordingly there was a constant battle between competing authorities for the right to declare what was the truth and so label opponents as liars. Issues of truth and lying were, therefore, a constant feature of everyday life and determined ideas of individual identity, politics, speech, sex, marriage, and social behaviour, as well as philosophy and religion. This book is a cultural history of truth and lying from the 1530s to the 1610s, showing how lying needs to be understood in action as well as in theory. Unlike most histories of lying, it concentrates on a series of particular events reading them in terms of academic theories and more popular notions of lying. The book covers a wide range of material such as the trials of Ann Boleyn and Thomas More, the divorce of Frances Howard, and the murder of Anthony James by Annis and George Dell; works of literature such as Othello, The Faerie Queene, A Mirror for Magistrates, and The Unfortunate Traveller; works of popular culture such as the herring pamphlet of 1597; and major writings by Castiglione, Montaigne, Erasmus, Luther, and Tyndale.

Future War in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

Will tomorrow's wars be dominated by autonomous drones, land robots and warriors wired into a cybernetic network which can read their thoughts? Will war be fought with greater or lesser humanity? Will it be played out in cyberspace and further afield in Low Earth Orbit? Or will it be fought more intensely still in the sprawling cities of the developing world, the grim black holes of social exclusion on our increasingly unequal planet? Will the Great Powers reinvent conflict between themselves or is war destined to become much 'smaller' both in terms of its actors and the beliefs for which they will be willing to kill? In this illuminating new book Christopher Coker takes us on an incredible journey into the future of warfare. Focusing on contemporary trends that are changing the nature and dynamics of armed conflict, he shows how conflict will continue to evolve in ways that are unlikely to render our century any less bloody than the last. With insights from philosophy, cutting-edge scientific research and popular culture, Future War is a compelling and thought-provoking meditation on the shape of war to come.

"The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" is almost certainly fiction, but its impact was not. Originating in Russia, it landed in the English-speaking world where it caused great consternation. Much is made of German anti-semitism, but there was fertile soil for "The Protocols" across Europe and even in America, thanks to Henry Ford and others.

Dangerous Intentions in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

Dangerous Intentions: Mouth Full of Lies is about my experience in a relationship with a Jamaican man named Mark (The Love of My Life) or so I thought. No matter how good things felt with all of the passion, love, time spent together, and chemistry, a web of lies was created. Once lies begin to surface things take a dramatic turn which changes the whole perception of what things appeared to be. I was taken on the ride of my life, the man I thought I knew suddenly became someone I didn't know at all. It was as if a mask was peeling off of his face and the person behind the mask emerged, which was a stranger to me. Our whole relationship seemed to disappear in the blink of an eye. My story will take you through all of the hurt and betrayal I endured. The man that vowed to love me and always be there for me lied and abandoned me. It almost seemed I was playing a character in a movie thinking this can't really be happening. He could no longer run from the truth, it was time to face it. The double life he was living blew up in an unexpected way. Ultimately he sold me a dream, but in the end delivered a nightmare. As my life was turned upside down I slowly moved on trying to put the pieces back together. In the process I crossed paths with another Jamaican man named Devon, who seemed to be the opposite of Mark. Devon and I would talk all the time about our past relationships which he used as a way to get close to me. I became hesitant pretty quickly as I noticed a dark side emerge that kept revealing itself no matter how much he tried to conceal it. Devon became emotionally and mentally abusive, it was the first time in my life I had ever experienced that type of abuse. He became a complete monster, as I tried to leave him many times I realized unlike the relationship with Mark, getting away from Devon would be more of a challenge. He was a manager at a cruise line where I worked and he made sure to keep reminding me by his actions that things would never be over until he

A change his friends, Sam, William, Paul and Peter, all born slaves, hungered for. They had a dream - a dream to be liberated from all who chained them. With this African princess, their dream would finally come true. "Daddy, what is a white lie?" My father put down his spoon and looked at me thoughtfully. "Why'd you ask, Princess?" "I heard you talking yesterday and you said 'one more white lie isn't going to make a difference.' I just want to know what you meant." "You heard that, huh?" My father tilted his head to study me. "It's just a small lie you tell when you don't want to hurt someone's feelings. It's nothing for you to worry about." My eyes grew wide. "Like when you told Aunt Rena that her pie was good even though it tasted icky?" "Exactly." He smiled. "Or when you told the man last week that you hadn't seen Uncle Bruno and you had?" The Smile fell from his face and he straightened in his chair. "No, Princess, that was a different kind of lie." Scrunching up my nose, I asked, "What kind of lie was that?" My father swallowed hard before replying. "That's the kind of lie where you have to have a real good memory." As an inquisitive child, the woman known as Clarissa Solano, could never have imagined how significant those words would become. That she would spend years twisting the truth: hoping and praying that she would not contradict herself and expose the secrets she keeps locked inside. Most of the people in her life don't really know her at all. She forces them to swallow her lies, but she is the one who feels the bitter aftertaste of deception. When Lane Hunter sweeps into her life, she finds herself opening up in ways she never thought possible. He sees beyond the facade to the woman beneath and knows instantly that he wants her. However, all is not as it seems and when secrets and lies are exposed, it threatens to destroy them all. This is the first book in a series of standalone HEAs"

The little village of Rough and Ready in Upper Mahantongo Township, Schuylkill County, PA is set in the center of the Mahantongo Valley, famous for its Pennsylvania Dutch culture -- especially the painted furniture. This book focuses on the social history of the village, anchored by information from the 1850 census and Salem Reformed Church cemetery records. This was the famous Isaac F Stiehly's church and most of the families mentioned were in his congregation. The book contains hundreds of photos, most over 100 years old, of life in the Valley. The Anarchist s Guide to Grammar in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

The Anarchist's Guide to Grammar: "Banish the "rules" of grammar in the U.S.!" is the revolution called for by author Val Dumond. "Scary? Of course, but drastic measures must be taken. Just look at the state of language today! The time is now! Stand up and reclaim it!" "We've been taking U.S. language for granted," claims this long-time writer. We make several assumptions: 1) that we have a language called "Proper English"; 2) that a set of "rules" lies in some mysterious place, written by some mysterious authority; 3) that one must follow those "rules" to speak and write correctly. Not so! The time has arrived to banish what we call "rules" and expose the assumptions." Dumond asks: What would happen if we all spoke the language of our heritage? We would quickly learn the sound of the Tower of Babel - since US-language has come about by combining languages from (at least) 150 countries around the world. As immigrants enter the country, they bring with them new ideas, cultures, foods, music, and language. As they become settled, they combine their culture with US-ers, thus enriching all of us in the United States, including our language. In an amusing Introduction, Val explains how we have assumed there exists an incontrovertible set of grammar "rules" to be followed in order to speak proper, correct, good English. "We're not in England anymore!" she points out. Oh yes, we started out with British "rules," but as we declared our independence, language changed, and continues to change. Do you really understand ordinary British English? Numerous pundits over time have drawn up what they consider the "rules" of grammar and forced them on their students. Yet, when those students run up against someone who studied a different set of "rules," confusion and doubt rear their heads. Must we in the U.S. speak "proper English" or do we have a language all our own? After clarifying the conundrum of US-language, Dumond offers guidelines to aid writers in determining what constitu
