"The former federal prosecutor and congressman for South Carolina breaks down the art of persuasion into a few shockingly simple, easy-to-follow, and proven steps that will help readers win arguments, gain support for their cause, and convey their message successfully. You may never find yourself in front of jury during a criminal prosecution arguing for a particular verdict or offering yourself for elected office in a political campaign. You simply want to be heard. You want to be understood. You want to effectively communicate what you believe, why you believe it, and perhaps why others should adopt your position as well. This book will help you get better at advancing what you believe through the art of asking the right questions, at the right time, in the right order, and in the right form. Blending gripping case studies, relatable personal stories, digestible evidence, and practical advice, it walks you through the tools and the mindset needed to effectively communicate. Using the same techniques he used from the courtroom to Congress, Trey Gowdy helps you land on your objective, know your jury, establish your burden of proof, and formulate strategic questions to persuade effectively beyond a reasonable doubt. The art of asking the right questions, listening to the response, and following up in a systematic way is essential to moving hearts and minds. And that should always be our objective when it comes to persuasion: striving not only to communicate but to move our audience to action. So let's get moving!"--

All You Have to Do Is Ask in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

A set of tools for mastering the one skill standing between us and success: the ability to ask for the things we need to succeed. Imagine you’re on a deadline for a big project, and feeling overwhelmed. Or you're looking for a job, but can't seem to get your foot in the door. Or you're dying for tickets to a sold out concert, and all your leads have gone cold. What do these problems have in common? They can all be solved simply by reaching out to a colleague, friend, or wider network and making an ask. Studies show that asking for help makes us better and less frustrated at our jobs. It helps us find new opportunities and new talent. It unlocks new ideas and solutions, and enhances team performance. And it helps us get the things we need outside the workplace as well. And yet, we rarely give ourselves permission to ask. Luckily, the research shows that asking—and getting—what we need is much easier than we tend to think. Here, Wayne Baker shares a set of strategies—used at companies like Google, GM, and IDEO—that individuals, teams, and leaders can use to make asking for help a personal and organizational habit, including: • A quiz to identify your asking-giving style • SMART criteria for who, when, and how to ask • “Plug-and-play ” routines that make requests a standard component of meetings • Mini-games that incentivize asking within teams • The Reciprocity Ring, a guided activity that allows people to tap into the giving power of a network Picking up where the bestselling book Give and Take left off, All You Have to Do Is Ask shows us how to ignite the cycle of giving and receiving by asking for the things we need. Advance praise for All You Have to Do Is Ask “Asking for help and support has been a key to my success. Wayne Baker expertly shares how everyone can do it.”—Shellye Archambeau, former CEO, MetricStream, and board director, Verizon and Nordstrom “Wayne Baker shares the formula for driving personal, organizational, and soc

The groundbreaking classic that explores how women can and should negotiate for parity in their workplaces, homes, and beyond When Linda Babcock wanted to know why male graduate students were teaching their own courses while female students were always assigned as assistants, her dean said: "More men ask. The women just don't ask." Drawing on psychology, sociology, economics, and organizational behavior as well as dozens of interviews with men and women in different fields and at all stages in their careers, Women Don't Ask explores how our institutions, child-rearing practices, and implicit assumptions discourage women from asking for the opportunities and resources that they have earned and deserve—perpetuating inequalities that are fundamentally unfair and economically unsound. Women Don't Ask tells women how to ask, and why they should.

Rising Strong in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • When we deny our stories, they define us. When we own our stories, we get to write the ending. Don’t miss the five-part HBO Max docuseries Brené Brown: Atlas of the Heart! Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall. It is the rise from falling that Brown takes as her subject in Rising Strong. As a grounded theory researcher, Brown has listened as a range of people—from leaders in Fortune 500 companies and the military to artists, couples in long-term relationships, teachers, and parents—shared their stories of being brave, falling, and getting back up. She asked herself, What do these people with strong and loving relationships, leaders nurturing creativity, artists pushing innovation, and clergy walking with people through faith and mystery have in common? The answer was clear: They recognize the power of emotion and they’re not afraid to lean in to discomfort. Walking into our stories of hurt can feel dangerous. But the process of regaining our footing in the midst of struggle is where our courage is tested and our values are forged. Our stories of struggle can be big ones, like the loss of a job or the end of a relationship, or smaller ones, like a conflict with a friend or colleague. Regardless of magnitude or circumstance, the rising strong process is the same: We reckon with our emotions and get curious about what we’re feeling; we rumble with our stories until we get to a place of truth; and we live this process, every day, until it becomes a practice and creates nothing short of a revolution in our lives. Rising strong after a fall is how we cultivate wholehearted

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Former congressman and prosecutor Trey Gowdy teaches you how to effectively communicate and persuade on the issues that matter most to you, drawing on his experience in the courtroom and the halls of Congress. “A must-read for people who want to learn how best to succeed.”—Dana Perino, Fox News host and bestselling author of Everything Will Be Okay You do not need to be in a courtroom to advocate for others. You do not need to be in Congress to champion a cause. From the boardroom to the kitchen table, opportunities to make your case abound, and Doesn’t Hurt to Ask shows you how to seize them. By blending gripping case studies from nearly two decades in a courtroom and four terms in national politics with personal stories and practical advice, Trey Gowdy walks you through the tools and the mindset needed to effectively communicate your message. Along the way, Gowdy reflects on the moments in his life when he learned the most about how to argue and convince. He recounts his missteps during his first murder trial, the conversation that changed his view on criminal justice reform, and what he learned while questioning James Comey and Secretary Hillary Clinton. Sharing the techniques he perfected advocating in law and politics, Gowdy helps you identify your objective, understand your personal jury, and engage in the art of questioning so you can be heard, be understood, and, ultimately, move others. Whether it’s getting a boss to take a chance on your idea, convincing someone to support your cause, or urging a child to invest more effort in an important task, movement requires persuasion. Doesn’t Hurt to Ask shows you how to persuade, no matter the jury and no matter the cause.

Summary of Doesn t Hurt to Ask in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

Summary of Doesn't Hurt to Ask One of the most critical skills a prosecutor can have in a courtroom is the ability to persuade. Every prosecutor knows that if they cannot persuade a jury of their client's guilt, they will never get the sentence they want. To persuade, someone must possess a few skills. The first thing they must do is know their jury. They must know any biases their jury may have, and they must know how their jury thinks. Without being able to meet the jury where they are, a prosecutor will not be very convincing. The second thing they must do is learn to listen. Listening effectively gets to know a jury, but it also helps a prosecutor ask questions. Every good prosecutor has mastered the skills of when to ask leading vs. non-leading questions. Third, a prosecutor must have strong facts and solid evidence to reach their conclusions, and they must not impede their credibility by misrepresenting facts. Fourth, when talking to witnesses, a prosecutor must seek to either undermine their credibility or build it up. By asking the right questions and presenting the correct facts, they can do this. A great prosecutor will subtly do all of these things, treating persuasion like a process rather than a momentary battle. Real persuasion is done by getting to know others and incrementally persuading them, a skill that Gowdy teaches every reader how to possess in this book. What does this SNAP Summary Include? - Synopsis of the original book - Key takeaways from each chapter - The key principles of persuasion - How to connect and persuade like a top-rated attorney - Editorial Review - Background on Trey Gowdy About the Original Book: The traditional way to persuade, Gowdy writes, is to present a logical argument and defend it with declarations of facts. This approach often works, but it is not very effective because it is essentially a monologue, and people don’t respond too well to being told what to do or believe. A better way to persuade is to determine your objective, get your facts straight, figure out your audience, and ask it the right questions at the right time. Drawing from his experiences as a prosecutor and congressman, Gowdy shows how this deceptively simple approach can be used to communicate effectively, connect deeply, and persuade convincingly. In this “brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn’t let go, long after you’ve finished it” (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of All Your Perfects, a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can’t stop thinking about her first love. Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is “a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down” (USA TODAY).
